As a foster kid and a ward of the state she was a victim of many of the most difficult times in her life. Because she was the result of a relationship that was not her own, she was never able to receive love from her parents. She was lucky to get a call at an event by Spike Lee, a director and producer on a film. Recognized for her role in the film Do The Right Thing she later starred in several hit films like White Men Can't Jump and Fearless. In Living Colour was the debut show in which she received three Emmy nominations. She made her debut as a Broadway star with her role in the show Googie Gomez The Ritz.
